What we say
Crumpets are surprisingly salty - and more so than bread. Just one GOLDEN Crumpet provides 23% of the upper level of daily sodium intake acceptable for an eight-year-old. They're also fibre-flimsy - even white bread contains more - so if you're after a fibre boost to start the day you're better off serving toast, or opt for a wholemeal crumpet variety.
Salt and low fibre aside, crumpets on their own are a relatively harmless snack. It's what you put on them - the butter, honey, cheese or jam - that pushes the fat and sugar limits. So if you're serving GOLDEN Crumpets as a treat, go easy on the toppings and, in particular, be sparing with salty spreads like KRAFT Vegemite and use unsalted butter or even better, go without.
Additives listed: Raising agents (500, 450), Preservatives (282, 234).
