What we say

Fruit conserves and jams are little more than boiled up fruit and sugar with some pectin to make it set. Although IXL Raspberry Conserve is 40% fruit there is more sugar added to it than fruit, which explains the red face for sugars.

Spread thinly on toast or a sandwich occasionally is OK. A teaspoon of IXL Raspberry Conserve has less sugar than a teaspoon of honey and is a low-fat alternative to peanut butter and hazelnut spreads. Just remember that with all that sugar comes a lot of kilojoules.

This product has added kiddie appeal because it comes in a reusable glass featuring pictures of their favourite cartoon characters. And there is a whole series of different glasses to collect.  But if you find that your family is finishing off enough jars of IXL Raspberry Conserve to get a whole set, they're probably eating too much!

Additives listed: Gelling agent (fruit pectin), Acids (330, 331).
