What we say
KRAFT Cheestiks have been a lunchbox favourite for years. As claimed on the label, they're a 'source of calcium' (each stick provides 12% of an eight-year-old's daily calcium needs). Cheestiks are also high in fat and salt, but cheese by definition is generally a high-fat, high salt food, so that comes as no surprise.
But just one 20g stick provides over 22% of the upper level of daily sodium intake acceptable for an eight-year-old. This is more than twice as salty as BEGA Stringers, another cheese product popular with kids (see our review, below). So if your child's a big cheese fan and one stick just isn't enough, you may want to look for reduced fat and salt options. And remember, there are other good sources of calcium with much less salt and fat than cheese –– low-fat yogurt or low-fat milk, for example.
Additives listed: Mineral salts (339, 452), Food acids (270, 331), Preservatives (200, 234).
