What we say
There aren't too many Australian homes that wouldn't have a jar of KRAFT Vegemite in the cupboard. Unlike other spreads, KRAFT Vegemite has no fat and virtually no sugar. It's also fortified with a range of B group vitamins.
Unfortunately, KRAFT Vegemite's downfall is its extremely high sodium (salt) content - in fact its second biggest ingredient is salt.
A diet high in salty foods can lead to high blood pressure. It's not just the salt you add at the table or when your cooking that you should be concerned about. Processed foods like bread, breakfast cereals and snacks make a big contribution to a child's salt intake.
So if you're serving the kids KRAFT Vegemite on toast, scrape it thinly and use an unsalted or low salt butter or margarine.
