What we say
"No artificial colours, no artificial flavours, no preservatives." You might think from the advertising hype that THE NATURAL BEVERAGE CO. Apple Flavoured Soft Drink is healthier for your kids than other fizzy drinks. But the reality, the major ingredients are the same - water and sugar.
With 11.6% sugar, a glass of THE NATURAL BEVERAGE CO. Apple Flavoured Soft Drink contains more than seven teaspoons of sugar and provides an 8-year-old with more than 30% of the amount of sugar that they should reasonably consume in a day.
In fact, there's more sugar in this 'natural' soft drink than in Sprite lemonade, but only 1% apple. That's so little apple you wouldn't even see it, so the manufacturers have added malt extract to give it a more apple-juice-like colour.
Just like other soft drinks, this is something that should be kept as an occasional treat, not something kids should be drinking every day.
Additives listed: Malic acid (296), Citric acid (330).
