'Whole grain' is the latest catch-phrase in breakfast cereals. Whole grain foods are usually minimally processed and contain more of the natural constituents found in the grain than refined foods. These include vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals (these may provide protection against some cancers and heart disease). Use the ingredients list rather than front of pack claims to separate marketing hype from fact - if the first ingredient listed is whole grain then it's more likely to include these nutrients. And the greater the percentage, the better.
UNCLE TOBYS Vita Brits is 99% whole grain wheat, with a bit of salt. It's a great high fibre, low fat cereal with no added sugar. It's as minimally processed as cereals come, so if it's 'real food' you're after look no further. It doesn't have the added vitamins and minerals of many other cereals on the market. But if you're eating a varied, healthy diet then chances are you're getting those elsewhere. Vita Brits is a good choice for breakfast.
Additives listed: none.
